Just a brief word here to let you know how we arrive at our shipping charges:
It is not and never has been our goal to make money on shipping charges. Goodness knows, it's expensive enough without us adding to it. So, instead, we prefer to charge our customers the actual cost of shipping.
When we first started our business in 1994, the US Postal Service did not yet have software that would allow internet web sites to integrate their shipping calculations with those of the postal service's systems, so we had to devise our own method of calculating shipping costs. As a small company, we didn't have the manpower to collect the information needed to calculate shipping costs based on destination and weight, as the postal service does it. So, we were only able to use the weight of the product. For the most part, our system was fairly accurate and reliable, but, on occasion, particularly when multiples of an item were ordered, we found that our system either overcharged or undercharged for shipping costs, and we would have to issue a credit or a separate billing for the difference.
But now, we are proud to announce that we have upgraded our site so that our customers are now able to select between UPS and the US Postal Service for the shipping method that they wish to use, and, since we are now able to use software that is provided by these two organizations, the charges for shipping a product are calculated by their software and should be accurate and precise, based on the shipping destination provided by you, the customer, and on the weight of the product (provided by us).
So we are excited about this, and we hope that you will be too. It will allow us to serve you more efficiently and will cause less paperwork on our part, certainly a win-win for everyone!
We, of course, are always open to suggestions on how we can operate even more efficiently, so don't be shy. If you have thoughts on how we can make this a better site, let us hear 'em!
